Bio
13 Elements’ Managing Director, Martin N. Smith brings 25 years experience establishing best-in-class compliance risk governance frameworks. He has worked with some of the world's most prominent banks, including Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. Much of this was spent as Chief of Staff and COO for Credit Suisse's Asia Compliance department, where he served as the senior officer responsible for developing the strategy, governance and administration required to deliver compliance’s strategic priorities across people, process and technology.

During this time, he led development of one of the industry's first holistic risk management digitalization initiatives from inception to global adoption. He also served as the Regional Reputational Risk Coordinator and Head of APAC Sustainability Risk & Governance.

Prior to his career in financial services, he worked as a reporter producer for CBS2 News in Los Angeles and served with NATO’s Joint Maritime Training Group. He has qualifications in Psychology and Broadcast Journalism.
​He is an industry acknowledged thought leader in the space of culture and conduct, governance and risk management, as well as compliance programme design and digitalization.
